Dr. Philip Newman
Dr. Philip Newman is a board-certified ophthalmologist with over three decades of experience in medical and surgical eye care. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and completed his internship at SUNY Stony Brook VA Medical Center in New York. He returned to the Medical College of Virginia for his ophthalmology residency and pursued advanced fellowship training in cornea, external diseases, and uveitis at the University of California, San Francisco and Emory University in Atlanta.
Dr. Newman applies his clinical expertise in cataract surgery, glaucoma management and corneal disease to treat both adolescent and adult patients. He is affiliated with Piedmont Rockdale Hospital, where he has held multiple leadership roles at Rockdale Medical Center, including Chief of Medical Staff, Treasurer, and Chief of the Department of Surgery. He has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for decades and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Newman has contributed to ophthalmic research and co-authored several publications on corneal grafts, ocular infections, and ocular toxoplasmosis. He is an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology and the Medical Association of Georgia. When he is not working, he enjoys practicing aikido, watching science fiction, traveling and playing with his granddaughter. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Donna.
